Q: Does this bowl really slow down my dog’s eating?
A: Yes – the internal obstacles force your dog to eat around them, extending mealtime from 10-20 seconds to 3-10 minutes depending on your dog’s persistence. Most owners report immediate improvement after the first meal.
Q: My dog is very aggressive with bowls – will they flip this over?
A: The wide, low-profile base (20.5 cm diameter, only 3.5 cm tall) is designed specifically to prevent tipping. Even enthusiastic eaters find it difficult to flip. The anti-slip bottom grips most floors (tile, wood, concrete). For extremely determined diggers, we recommend adding a non-slip mat underneath.
Q: What size dog is this bowl for?
A: The 8-inch diameter is ideal for small to medium breeds under 50 lbs. Examples:
• Fits well: Corgi, Frenchie, Beagle, Poodle, Shih Tzu, Boston Terrier, Cavalier, Pug
• May be too small: Labrador, Golden Retriever, German Shepherd (use our large 10" bowl)
• For giant breeds (Great Dane, Mastiff): Not suitable – please see our extra-large slow feeder.
Q: How much food does it hold?
A: Approximately 1.5 – 2 cups of dry kibble (350-470 ml), which is the typical meal size for dogs 15-40 lbs. For smaller dogs, just fill less – the obstacles still work. For larger appetites, refill after first round.
Q: Can I use wet food in this bowl?
A: Yes – but stickier pâtés may need a quick rinse after. The smooth plastic surface releases food easily. For very wet/mushy food, consider our silicone slow feeder (easier to pop out leftovers).
Q: Is this bowl safe for puppies?
A: Yes – puppies 8+ weeks can use it. Starting slow feeding early prevents gulping habits from forming. The shallow height (3.5 cm) is easy for small mouths to reach.
Q: Will this help with my dog’s bloat risk?
A: Veterinary research shows that slow feeding significantly reduces risk of gastric dilatation-volvulus (GDV/bloat), especially in deep-chested breeds. This bowl is not a medical device, but it is an excellent preventive tool recommended by many vets.
Q: Is the plastic BPA-free and non-toxic?
A: Yes – this bowl is made from food-grade, BPA-free plastic with no phthalates, lead, or harmful chemicals. Safe for daily use.
Q: My dog is clever and figured out how to tilt the bowl. Any tips?
A: Try these tricks:
• Place a heavy can of food in the center (if bowl has a flat spot)
• Use a non-slip silicone mat underneath
• Feed smaller portions twice instead of one large meal
• Upgrade to our suction-base slow feeder for determined tilting dogs
Q: How do I clean the obstacles – does food get stuck?
A: The design has smooth, rounded obstacles without sharp corners where food can hide. A quick rinse or top-rack dishwasher cycle removes all residue. For dried-on food, soak for 5 minutes in warm water.
